Superlattice-based thin-film thermoelectric modules with high cooling fluxes
In present-day high-performance electronic components, the generated heat loads result in unacceptably high junction temperatures and reduced component lifetimes. Thermoelectric modules can, in principle, enhance heat removal and reduce the temperatures of such electronic devices. However, state-of-the-art bulk thermoelectric modules have a maximum cooling flux qmax of only about 10 W cm(-2), w...
متن کاملRadio Jets in Cooling Cores
Almost every strong cooling core contains an active radio galaxy. Combined radio and X-ray images reveal the dramatic interaction which is taking place between the radio jet and the central cluster plasma. At least two important questions can in principle be answered by comparing the new data to theoretical models. The first is how the radio jet propagates, and disrupts, in the cooling core env...
متن کاملTemperature quench echoes in proteins
Temperature quench echoes are analyzed in terms of the temperature–temperature correlation function in the harmonic approximation, and the resulting expressions are compared with molecular dynamics simulations. The relationship between the time dependence of the echo depth and the density of states is demonstrated for harmonic systems. For a protein, which has significant anharmonicity, the tim...
متن کاملStability and Quench Protection of High-Temperature Superconductors
In the design and operation of a superconducting magnet, stability and protection are two key issues that determine the magnet's reliability and safe operation. Although the high-temperature superconductor (HTS) is considered much more stable than the low-temperature superconductor (LTS), it is susceptible to damage caused primarily by three events that can occur in large-scale "real" devices: ...
متن کاملSelf - propelled film - boiling liquids
We report that liquids perform self-propelled motion when they are placed in contact with hot surfaces with asymmetric (ratchet-like) topology. The pumping effect is observed when the liquid is in the film-boiling regime, for many liquids and over a wide temperature range. We propose that liquid motion is driven by a viscous force exerted by vapor flow between the solid and the liquid.
